But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. The heart is deceitful about all things and beyond cure. Who can understand?
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
My faith is strong, but that doesn’t mean I’m free from feeling like a hot mess most days and in most situations. What makes the growing easier, though, is being intentional on planting my roots. Scripture is not a band-aid, but it does keep me grounded and my head out of the little worlds and scenarios I create for myself. Being around scripture helps keep the earth below my feet and my eyes fixed on truth.
